I help good people through difficult times.
Accidents involving large commercial vehicles such as tractor trailers, semi-trucks, trucks and agricultural vehicles or equipment and fire trucks can result in fatal or very serious injuries. Many of these accidents are resulting from inadequate training or driver fatigue and could have been prevented if proper precautions were followed or had been put in place.
Careful examination of records after an accident often show serious or even fraudulent violations of commercial safety regulations. There are strict rules on the number of hours a driver can be at the wheel of a large truck or bus. Driver fatigue is a common problem.
Trucking companies are only required to maintain many of those records for six months. Without obtaining those records before they are destroyed, the injured person or survivors of a person killed in a truck or bus crash have a much more difficult time proving the company's negligence.
As with auto accidents, the impact of truck accidents can extend far beyond the vehicular damages. There are often long lasting physical injuries, emotional trauma and financial burdens that accompany an auto accident. In addition to costs of vehicle repairs, there's medical bills and lost wages because of time out of work.
If having had a collision with a commercial vehicle, it is helpful if possible to take pictures of your vehicles damages, the accident scene and document including picture documentation of your own injuries. Medical attention should be sought immediately.
After seeking medical treatment for injuries, copies should be kept of all medical bills, including those covered by insurance. Documentation of work absence should be kept as well. You may want to document any concerns about medical treatment received or the pain caused by the injuries.
It is important to choose an attorney who has had experience with commercial vehicle laws.
